Surprise in Honolulu
Surfing the south shore
We just got back from a 5 day trip on Oahu. Why Oahu? It is simple I went there to surf and the surfing is great, I know the island really well, there is more to do and they have better restaurants than the other islands. I went there for my 56th birthday so I could surf the southshore. In the past I have rented boards at the beach and have found that the quality of boards is suspect and they tend to be expensive. This time I rented a board from Hawaii Surfboard Rentals it was high quality board delivered and picked up at my hotel, simple!!
Inside at Indigo
The first night we got there we got there we went to Indigo downtown on the outskirts of Chinatown. You get to the restaurant through a narrow passage way which opens up to a large indoor outdoor restaurant in a building that was built in the 20's. We really liked the openness of the restaurant ti could have been in any era it just had a very nice feel of history. Our server Martyna was from Poland and gave us some good suggestions. We started out with 2 different soups my wife had the Tomato Crab Soup and I had the Laksa Soup. the Laksa Soup was tasty but my wife's Tomato soup was delicious, so good that she is still talking about it 2 weeks later. It had a rich tomato taste which was enhanced by Crab and Garlic Chili. For the entree I had the steamed Onaga with Bok Choy, Ginger and KimChee overall a great dish. My wife had the Ono with Coco Curry sauce another fantastic dish. Overall a very good start to our stay in Hawaii.
The Real Duke
Other places we went in Honolulu included 3660 on the Rise the food was good but the restaurant was dated. At Ala Moana mall we had Dim Sum at the Jade Dynasty which was very good also. We also had a great Breakfast at The Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki (The Pink Hotel) although it is pricey the views are great and the food is very good. My wife had Tomato based vegetable and sausage stew with 2 poached eggs, I had Macadamia Nut pancakes which the made per request.
